THE SOA PRESENTS: THE STATE I AM IN
On Dec 12th, a group of beautiful people gathered togther to witness the STATE I AM IN, at the ever popular, Its A Dominican Thing.
The Sound of Art presents accomplished photographer Javier Mota, who conjures up a humorous, introspective and ultimately enlightening foray into the use of fear and propaganda in order to manufacture consent in the U.S. with his offering The State I Am In.
A recent transplant to the U.S., Javier Mota, found himself taken aback by the media’s constant bombardment of images and ideas intended keep the population polarized and subjugated. Mr. Mota found it ironic that in a country of plenty that is almost completely free of political violence and abject and dire poverty, that most people live their lives in a state of fear, with a tangible and noxious cloud of anxiety hanging over the populace.
Javier Mota’s answer to this sad state of affairs is a photo essay which consists of a series of self portraits showing the artist in a Hazmat suit taking part in everyday run-of-the-mill activities such as trawling the produce aisle in the supermarket or watching the evening news.
The intent is to dramatize the fear and apprehension felt by the citizenry and also to highlight the ridiculous lengths that some folks go to keep themselves safe and sterile.
